goal-zero-yeti150-troubleshooting-guide-and-error-codes

The Goal Zero YETI150 is a portable power station that can keep your devices charged and running in case of an emergency, camping, or off-grid living. It has a 168Wh, 14Ah (12V) battery capacity and a variety of powering options, including two USB ports, an AC outlet, and a 12V output. It can be recharged from the wall, the car, or the sun with compatible solar panels.

However, like any device, the YETI150 may encounter some issues or problems that need troubleshooting. In this guide, we will cover some of the most common problems and their solutions, as well as a comprehensive guide to error codes that may appear on the display. If you follow these steps, you should be able to fix most of the issues and enjoy your YETI150 without hassle.

The YETI150 does not turn on or charge

Solution: This could be caused by a low battery level, a faulty power adapter, a damaged charging port, or a defective unit. To troubleshoot this problem, try the following steps:

  • Check the battery level indicator on the front panel. If it shows less than 20%, you need to recharge the YETI150 before using it.
  • Try using a different power adapter or charging source. If you are using the wall charger, make sure it is plugged into a working outlet and that the cable is not damaged. If you are using the car charger, make sure it is connected to a 12V cigarette lighter socket and that the vehicle is running. If you are using solar panels, make sure they are facing the sun and that there is no shade or dirt on them.
  • Check the charging port on the back of the YETI150. Make sure it is clean and free of debris or corrosion. If you see any damage or signs of wear, contact Goal Zero customer support for a replacement.
  • If none of the above steps work, you may have a defective unit that needs to be repaired or replaced. Contact Goal Zero customer support for further assistance.

The YETI150 does not power or charge devices

Solution: This could be caused by a low battery level, an overloaded output port, an incompatible device, or a faulty cable or connector. To troubleshoot this problem, try the following steps:

  • Check the battery level indicator on the front panel. If it shows less than 20%, you need to recharge the YETI150 before using it.
  • Check the output port that you are using. Make sure it is turned on by pressing the corresponding button on the front panel. The LED light next to the button should be green. If it is red, it means that the port is overloaded or short-circuited. Try unplugging some devices or using a different port.
  • Check the device that you are trying to power or charge. Make sure it is compatible with the YETI150 and that it does not exceed its maximum power rating. The YETI150 can provide up to 80W continuous and 160W surge power through the AC outlet, up to 10A (120W) through the 6mm port and the car port, and up to 2.1A (10W) through each USB port. Some devices may require more power than the YETI150 can provide, such as hair dryers, microwaves, electric kettles, etc.
  • Check the cable or connector that you are using. Make sure it is not damaged or loose. Try using a different cable or connector if possible.

The YETI150 makes a loud fan noise

Solution: This is normal and not a cause for concern. The YETI150 has an internal fan that helps regulate its temperature and prevent overheating. The fan will turn on automatically when the YETI150 is charging or discharging at high rates, or when the ambient temperature is high. The fan will turn off when the YETI150 cools down or when it is idle.

To reduce the fan noise, you can try the following tips:

  • Avoid placing the YETI150 near heat sources or direct sunlight.
  • Avoid charging or discharging the YETI150 at high rates for prolonged periods.
  • Keep adequate ventilation around the YETI150 and do not cover its vents.

The YETI150 displays an error code

Solution: The YETI150 has a built-in display that shows various information such as battery level, input power, output power, and error codes. Error codes indicate that there is something wrong with the YETI150 or its operation. They are usually accompanied by a beep sound and a flashing red LED light on one of the output port buttons.

The following table lists the possible error codes and their meanings:

Error Code Meaning Solution
E01 AC inverter overload Unplug some devices or use a different port
E02 AC inverter over temperature Let the YETI150 cool down and reduce the load
E03 AC inverter short circuit Check the cable or device for damage or contact Goal Zero customer support
E04 AC inverter under voltage Recharge the YETI150
E05 AC inverter over voltage Contact Goal Zero customer support
E06 12V port overload Unplug some devices or use a different port
E07 12V port over temperature Let the YETI150 cool down and reduce the load
E08 12V port short circuit Check the cable or device for damage or contact Goal Zero customer support
E09 12V port under voltage Recharge the YETI150
E10 12V port over voltage Contact Goal Zero customer support

To clear an error code, press and hold the corresponding output port button for 3 seconds. If the error persists, contact Goal Zero customer support for further assistance.

Problem 5: The YETI150 does not hold a charge or has a reduced battery capacity

Solution: This could be caused by a depleted battery, a faulty battery, or improper storage or maintenance. To troubleshoot this problem, try the following steps:

  • Perform a full charge and discharge cycle. Plug the YETI150 into a wall outlet and let it charge until the battery level indicator shows 100%. Then, unplug it and use it to power or charge devices until the battery level indicator shows 0%. Repeat this process at least once every 3 months to keep the battery healthy and calibrated.
  • Check the battery health indicator on the front panel. If it shows less than 80%, it means that the battery has lost some of its original capacity and may need to be replaced. Contact Goal Zero customer support for a replacement.
  • Store and maintain the YETI150 properly. Do not expose it to extreme temperatures, humidity, or moisture. Do not drop it or subject it to shocks or vibrations. Do not leave it fully charged or fully discharged for long periods. Keep it between 20% and 80% charge when not in use and recharge it at least once every 6 months.
