Our Editorial Principles

PortablePowerLife exists to help buyers make better decisions about portable power. Every editorial choice we make follows these principles:

  1. Buyer utility over ranking incentives. We recommend the product that best fits the buyer question the page addresses, not the product that pays the highest affiliate rate or ranks easiest.
  2. Source-verifiable claims. Every specification we publish should be traceable to a manufacturer product page, an official specification sheet, or the Amazon Product Advertising API. If we can’t verify it, we don’t publish it as fact.
  3. Honest limits. We do not claim hands-on testing when we haven’t performed it. We do not fabricate reviewer identities. Where our knowledge is incomplete, we say so.
  4. Corrections over defense. When we get something wrong, we fix it and note the correction. We do not silently edit factual claims.

How We Choose Products

  • Products must be currently available for purchase through Amazon US at the time of publication or last update. Out-of-stock or discontinued products are removed within 30 days of confirmation.
  • Products must have sufficient verified purchase history for us to assess real-world performance. We do not feature brand-new listings that lack buyer feedback history.
  • Products must match the buyer intent of the page. A “best for camping” roundup features products optimized for portability and outdoor use. A “best for home backup” roundup features products optimized for capacity and transfer switch compatibility.
  • We prioritize products from manufacturers with established support infrastructure. Warranty coverage, spare parts availability, and customer service track record all factor into ranking.

Sourcing Hierarchy

  1. Manufacturer official documentation – product pages, spec sheets, user manuals
  2. Amazon Product Advertising API – official product data including verified feature bullets, dimensions, and current pricing
  3. Verified buyer review aggregations – patterns across many verified purchases, not individual quotes
  4. Independent third-party specification databases where relevant and available
  5. Editorial judgment – clearly identified as such

We do not use unverified user-generated content (social media posts, forum threads, uploaded videos) as primary sources for specifications.

Affiliate Disclosure and Independence

PortablePowerLife earns commission through the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program when readers purchase products through our affiliate links.

What this means:

  • We earn a small percentage of qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you
  • Amazon does not know which products we plan to feature and cannot influence our editorial decisions
  • We do not accept payment from manufacturers to feature products
  • We do not accept free products in exchange for coverage
  • We do not accept editorial input from third parties
  • We do not use sponsored content, paid placements, or advertorials

How we mark affiliate links:

  • All outbound product links carry rel="sponsored nofollow noopener" attributes
  • All pages that contain affiliate links display an affiliate disclosure near the top
  • The disclosure is written in plain language and appears before the first affiliate link

Corrections Policy

We correct errors as soon as we’re aware of them.

To request a correction: Email editor@portablepowerlife.com with:

  • The URL of the page
  • The specific claim that needs review
  • Your source for the correction, if available

How we handle corrections:

  • Factual errors are fixed within 5 business days of verification
  • The affected page is updated with the correct information
  • A brief correction note is added to the page indicating what was corrected and when
  • We do not delete pages to bury errors

What We Are Not

To avoid overclaiming, we are explicit about what PortablePowerLife is not:

  • We are not a certified electrical safety authority. Consult qualified electricians for home wiring, transfer switch installation, or off-grid electrical questions with life-safety implications.
  • We are not a substitute for manufacturer support. For warranty claims, product defects, or technical support on a specific unit, contact the manufacturer directly.
  • We are not affiliated with any of the brands we cover. No manufacturer has ownership, control, or editorial influence over PortablePowerLife.

Content Attribution

Posts on PortablePowerLife are attributed to “The PortablePowerLife Editorial Team.” Our team is a small editorial group operating under JT Web Media. We use collective attribution because our editorial process is collaborative – research, drafting, ranking judgment, and editorial review are distributed across the team rather than owned by a single named author on each piece.
